Orthotics

Custom-made orthotics are medical devices that support and gently reposition the heel, arch, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones in the feet, enabling these structures to work together as nature intended, to make each step you take pain-free. Unlike shoe inserts bought over the counter, however, custom-made orthotics are built from molds of your feet to meet your unique needs. They're made with comfortable thermoplastic materials, which are guaranteed to last for years, and can be designed to fit in dress shoes, athletic shoes, boots, and skates.

Orthotics have been know to successfully:

• Decrease pressure points in footwear
• Decrease callus and blister formation
• Relieve aching or tired feet
• Increase shock absorption
• Reduce shin pain
• Relieve symptoms of patellofemoral syndrome (knee pain)
• Reduce the intensity and frequency of low back pain
• Prevent or slow down further bunion (big toe joint) development
• Correct walking or running gait

ASTC offers custom orthotic assessment and fitting to patients requiring this service. Custom orthotics used to correct alignment dysfunction can be an important factor in a successful rehabilitation program.  Orthotics are covered by most insurance plans, with a prescription from a doctor.
